Off & On

We seem to be getting good nights in the crib, off & on. Monday night, Jaxon slept in his crib the whole night. He woke up at 5am, then went back to sleep. It was a wonderful night!!! Then last night he woke up 4 times! Finally at 4am, I put him in his jumper-roo (his nap spot!) & put on The Wiggles, and went back to bed. Yes, that sounds horrible to some, but I needed my sleep! I had been up most of the night with him, trying to get him to fall asleep! A mommy's got to do what a mommy's got to do! And it worked!!!

I have decided to wean Jaxon. This is really sad for me. We are doing it gradually. I am only nursing him at night. I have been doing this since Saturday night. He has been doing really well with it. He hasn't clawed at me like I thought he would. When he does start acting like he wants to nurse, I just tell him that "nursies are all done". He seems to understand this. We want to have another baby soon & since I had a miscarriage a few years ago before we had Jaxon, I am worried that breastfeeding would somehow affect my pregnancy. So I want to start the process now. Actually, I have noticed that it has been better for Jaxon!!!! He is the skinniest lil guy that hates to eat. Well, as soon as he wants to nurse, I bring out a sippy cup or a snack. So instead of nursing, he eats! He has a weigh in at the doctor's on the 10th, so I hope that they will see him gaining weight! I am thinking that he was filling himself up on my milk, instead of food. Knowing this has acutally helped me out to not feeling so guilty.

I am starting to get Jaden's curriculum ready for first grade. I have everything except science and Bible. We are adding some new subjects this year: History & Handwriting. I think I am going to go to this homeschool curriculum store to see if I see something there. I went to the Parent-Teacher store & Sam's Club to get most of his books. I am really happy with what I got. Esspecially History! We are going to start studying early American History, so we are starting off with Native Americans. We will learn about them for the first half of the year, then move into Pilgrams & early settlers the second half of the year.

Well, my boys are now getting active (morning sleepiness is waring off!), so I need to go!

"Whatever is...true...lovely...excel

Early Mornings

Mornings come so fast, don't they? I wish I were still sleeping, but since Jaxon sleeps in his crib now (insert Hallelujah chorus), he wakes up around 6:30. Joe puts him in his jumper-roo & pops in a Wiggles DVD and he is good for a while. If he falls back to sleep in the jumper-roo, then he will sleep for a few hours. I love it when that happens because I get to keep sleeping. But if he doesn't, like this morning, I have to get up at 7am.

I am trying to wean Jaxon. I have decided to only nurse him during the night when he wakes up. When that happens, he only nurses for like 1-4 minutes. I am hoping that by doing this, my milk will dry up. He is 16 months old now (as of today!!!). I nursed Jaden till he was 18 months. I really love extended breastfeeding, but since I want to have another baby, I need to slow things down.

This past weekend was my brother-in-law's funeral. He was my step-sister's husband. It is a horrible situation. My step-sister was going through a divorce with him when he died. So not only does she have the pain of the divorce, she has to deal with the pain of losing him all together. A very sad & difficult situation. My heart really goes out to her.

Last night I heard from my best friend/sis-in-law, Missy, that her grandmother died. This was her last grandparent that was living. I am so sad for Missy. From what Missy knows, her grandmother died peacefully. I know that fact is bringing peace to Missy. I feel bad for her, she just got back from Ohio on late Thursday night, worked the weekend (she is a nurse) & will now turn back around and head back to Ohio for the funeral.

Jaden is at my mom's. He stayed the night last night. He loves going there. My parents are here for a few weeks. They have a really nice camper. Jaden loves camping & "stick fires" aka, campfires. :)

Looks like Jaxon fell back to sleep...I think I will too!!!

Stoked!!!!

So I posted a message on Facebook asking my friends in the area if any of them would be willing to let me practice on them or their kids. And withing like 30 minutes, I got 5 responses!! I am so excited!! I can't wait to practice!! I so want to learn & master my camera!

In addition the the five responses, I have a newborn shoot tomorrow morning of my friends lil sweet baby! I can't wait!! I hope it turns out OK! As long as everyone understands that I am a newbie & that I can't promise perfection...I think we will be good! I also have a few family members that I am going to take some pics of soon, so I should be busy for a little while! :)

Oh, not sure if you noticed, but I keep changing my backgrounds. I am still not happy with what I have. So expect to see more changes in the look :)

Waiting for Daddy

I was practicing on the AV mode on my camera today. I practiced getting the front in focus & the background blurry. I decided to let Buzzie be my model. While I was fiddling around with my settings, he layed down on my bed. Then I got the inspiration to turn the time forward to a little after 5:00. He has such sad lil eyes I thought it was a cute idea :) I did my first B/W in photoshop, I am not that great at it. Practice makes perfect I guess.

New Look!

I get bored easily, so what do you think of the new blog look?

Breakthrough!!!

Two breakthroughs I want to talk about:

1.Jaxon is sleeping in his crib!!!!!!! 5 nights in a row!!! The first four nights he only woke up once to nurse. That is a lot better than a million times a night when he was in our room!!! Then last night, he slept through the WHOLE night without waking!!! He woke up at 6:30am. I nursed him back to sleep because I was so not ready to wake up that early (lol)! He went back to sleep and we woke up at 9:30am!!!!! I can't believe it!!! BREAKTHROUGH!!!!!!

2.I have been obsessed with this photography message board, ilovephotography.com (ILP). Everyone on there is sooooooo good. They inspire me to keep on keeping on with photography! Anyway, everyone on there talks about "metering". I had no idea what they were talking about. I pulled out my manual & it talked about what metering modes I had, but not how to use them. So I went to youtube....same thing! Goggle....same thing. So I took a deep breath and decided to post a message on ILP and ask them my newbie question. I was terrifided because some of the ladies on there tend to be mean. Not all of them, but about 10%. It is like they do not have time for us newbies. Anyway, a super nice person posted a really well described message on how to meter. It was like a whole new world opened up for me! When I would use Manual on the camera, I guessed at what exposure was the best for the lighting that I was in. I had no idea that there was a little meter in the camera that tells you what the best exposure was! BREAKTHROUGH!!!!!

Lonely

Every feel lonely? Today had been that kind of a day for me. I know that I am not alone. I have God & my boys with me. I spent the morning with my mom....so I wonder why I feel lonely. I am sure it is my crazy hormones.

Maybe it is because Joe went back to work today. He has had six weeks of summer vacation to spend with us. I guess I got use to having a grown up around. He spoiled me by helping out with the kids so much. Joe has always been a good dad, but this year he has really upped his game! He really turned into super dad this summer! He turned his shirt & tie in for a cape :)

I hit a wall as far as genealogy for the Joe's family. I thought that we (me & Joe's dad) were making some real good progress, but I think we were following the wrong family. I am not positive about it, but pretty sure. It is like there are no online records in Barbados. If I could find the names of his great-grandparents parents, it would open up a lot more options. So I (I, meaing Joe!) will have to call the island of Barbados and order some birth records. Or maybe I should just go! Anyone got a few thousand dollars they want to give me? LOL!

I went to this homeschooling store today. It was nice & the lady helped me out, but as I was there, I was fighting back the tears. I felt so overwhelmed & depressed. They didn't have the curriculum that I wanted. I thought that if I just looked at "The Weaver" I would just know that it was the one. But since they didn't have it, the lady showed me so many options my head was spinning. None of them looked like something that would work for us. But also, I am really emotional today & my mom and kids were with me sitting down waiting for me. I felt rushed, so I just left. I am going to have my mom watch the kids for me next week. Then I can just go there by myself and spend as much time as I need to. I called the company of "The Weaver" and asked them to send me some samples. I hope that when I get them it will clear up some questions I have about it.

I am doing "summer school" with Jaden. I started last week. We are doing just a few pages in his "Getting Ready for First Grade" book. I don't want him to lose all of the stuff we learned this past year. He was excited to get back to learning. I love that. I love how he loves to learn. It makes teaching so much easier!

Yesterday, Joe & I took the kids to some parks around the city. We have a big lake near us, but never have gone to see them. There is an AWESOME campground right by me. It is on a small penincila . All the sites are on the edge of the water. It was so pretty, I actually wanted to go buy a tent and camp there! Then we went to a small park where it would be nice to pack a picnic & spend the afternoon there! We also found a marina where you can boat at. They also rent pontoons. It is a little pricy ( I think!). You get it from 8-5. $175 weekdays, $195 weekends. We don't fish nor would we swim in the water, so I think we would get super bored just boating around. It would be pretty to explore the lake though. There are small islands in the middle of the lake. You can actually camp there, but I wouldn't want to do that. We would have to buy our own portable toilet....gross....I wouldn't want to dump/clean it....I would just want to toss it. That kind of stuff makes me shudder!!!

Jaxon LOVES The Wiggles!!! I was cleaning out the DVD cabinet & found one of Jaden's old DVD's. Jaden LOVED them at this age too, so I popped it in & he has been dancing ever since!

Well, I better go. Wiggles are over!

These are few of my favorite things....

Vacation

I have posted a few thing about our vacation to Ohio, but wanted to go into more detail about it now.

All in all it was a nice trip home. For the majority of the trip, I was sick. My allergies went crazy, causing me to have sinus & migrane headaches. In fact, I had THE worst headache of my life while I was in Ohio. I took every OTC med that I could take, slept with an ice pack on my head & drank some coffee to rid myself of the headache. Nothing helped. I was in so much pain I was crying. Thank God that is over!!!

I got to see my brother & sister, which was nice. I wish I could have spent more time with them, but I only have so much time & have to work around their work schedules. I did get to spend a good amount of time with one of best friends, Lisa. She lives in NC now, so we only get to see each other once a year. We try to plan our trips back home to Ohio at the same time so we can see eachother. We went to Cedar Point, boating, and just hanging out.

When I wasn't running around, I got hooked into genealogy. I got on the website ancestry.com and went crazy looking up our family history!!! I got back seven generations(!!!!) on my grandfather's side. I also found some stuff on Joe's great-grandparents from Barbados (see the pick of g-grandfather a few posts back), which was awesome because we have been trying to find stuff on them for the longest time. I felt like a rockstar finding census reports back from the late 1800's & ship manafests!! I love to investigate & love mysteries, so geneology is a good fit for me! Having this website at my fingertips (thanks Mom for paying for it!!!), I had a hard time walking away from it. Joe was getting so mad a me for spending all my free time downloading the actual documents. I had to "sneak" and research! LOL!!! It was like a drug calling my name! I still need to reseach farther back on the family lines I was searching for & look for other family lines. Very fun!

Ok...now that I talked about how much fun I had, ancestry.com is calling me......

Made it Home & Another Photoshoot

We made it home!!!! Only been home for an hour & I am already blogging!!! LOL!!! I wanted to post something new because I am sure you have all been sitting at the edge of your seat, longing & waiting to read my latest post! (giggling & rolling eyes!)

I had a chance to do another photoshoot with a friend's daughter. I learn new things each time I take pics! I soooooooo need to get the book , "Understanding Exposure". I am going to get it tomorrow...I think. I feel like I have the "eye for photography", but I am really lacking in technical talent of the camera & post-processing of the images. But all in good time. I feel like I am off to a good start though.

I think that I may have four more practice shoots here in the future to keep me practicing. I am going to shoot (cameras, not guns, people!!!) my brother-n-law & sis-n-law for a practice "engagement photoshoot". Yes, they are married already, but I need a couple to pose for me! I hope to do this upcoming week (Anabella, call me!!!). One of my friends should be having her baby any day now, so I am pretty sure she will let me do a newborn shoot. I hope to do another kid shoot with my neice and/or nephew at the end of this week. Then in September, I have another newborn shoot of my newest neice that will be arriving next month!!! If there is anyone in my area, let me know if you want someone to take free pics of you or your kids! I need the practice!!!!

I will post a post-vacation blog soon!!!!!

First Photoshoot!!! Just a few :)

Bad Blogger, Bad!

Yes, I know that I am behind in blogging! I guess I am taking a vacation from blogging! Vacation here has been great, except that Jaxon is teething horribly and I am sick. I have a really bad sinus thing going on. I have to wait till next week when I get back to TN before I can go to the DR.

I had two practice "photoshoots" yesterday. One was with my own kids, that went awful. I turned into the wicked mommy of the west. Jaxon would not sit still & look at the camera. I got one good shot of him at the Lake, but there is a sea gull eating a dead fish directly in the background! Great!!! Jaden would look at the camera, but would give me the weirdest smiles. Oh well. I went home defeted. I appologized to Jaden for yelling at him & Jaxon so much. Bad mommy moment. But my second one for the day went GREAT!!! One of my best friends, Lisa, she let me practice on her little girl. I took 225 click!!! Can you believe that?? I would say that only 20 turned out great. I learned a lot. I need to take my time & make sure that I get a good focus. Most of them were in focus, but I found only 20 or so that I thought were photoshop worthy. I will post some pics in a new blog!

Here!

I am breathing Buckeye air!!! Yea!!!!!

We left our house at 6am (really, I told Joe I wanted to leave at 5am knowing that he would be dragging...and he did...and so we really left on time at 6am). We made super good time. We didn't run into any traffic or any other problems. We only stopped once to eat ( I packed some yummy snacks!) and only stopped a few times to go potty/walk Buzz/Diaper changes. We made it to Lorain in 9.5 hours. That is GREAT time, especially with kiddos! Normally, they bump our time to 10-12 hours!!!

Both Jaden & Jaxon did WONDERFUL! Jaden watched his movies & played with some toys. Jaxon slept practically the whole time. When he wasn't sleeping, he was talking to himself & giggleing! It was so great! Joe drove the first half & I drove the second. We jammed to Kelly Clarkson, Michael Jackson & Rascal Flatts!

Today, we are resting here at Joe's parents. Trying to take it easy. Tomorrow I am going to Cedar Point with my super-duper friend, Lisa. We haven't seen each other in a year!!! I am so excited to see her! We are going there, just the two of us for the first half, then our families will join us the second half.

Oh, you have got to see this! Joe's Dad got a picture of his grandfather. This was a never before seen picture & first time they have ever seen (I am pretty sure) what he looked like. Here is his pic, doesn't he look like Joe?!?!?

He totally has his great-grandfather's eyes!! The cheaks & nose are different, but oh-my-gosh...now I know what Joe will look like when he gets older!!! It is so weird how Joe looks like someone three generations back! This was a GREAT find!!!
