I know I am a lil late on writing this.
My lil toother was giving me problems all weekend :( Gotta call the dentist as soon as it opens this morning! Anyhoo...enough about my whoas & back to my
{favorite} veteran...
My Papa! He is a WWII Veteran.
A few days ago, my 8 year old was rummaging through my craft desk/table (I have told him a zillion times not to touch my stuff...but my stuff is just too hard & cool to resist...even for me..hehehehe). He found something on my desk....
It was my Papa's old
WWII army issued coin purse...wait, no, that can't be right...it was probably called a pouch? Wallet? My Grama gave it to me. I don't know if Papa even knows that I have it, lol....but I do..and I
cherish it! I keep it next to my sewing machine. Every time I see it, I think of him!
I am so thankful for his service & for all the other men & women who put their lives on the line for us.
{Super Cool Story Alert} This past summer when I was in Ohio, I went out to eat with my grandparents & my boys. We went out to Cracker Barrel (yum!). My grandfather wore his WWII Vet hat. My Grama says that every time he wears it, people always stop him & thank him for his service. So anyway, we are sitting down looking at our menus & this man comes up to our table and asks if he could shake my grandfather's hand. He thanks him for his service...and then hands him
$50 and says, "And I want to thank you by paying for your meal"...and walked off!!
What!!! My grandfather was stunned...as the rest of us were! I joked with Papa that if this happens all the time, we are gonna take this show on the road & hit a new restaurant every day! {just kidding, just kidding}
The reason I am telling you this pretty awesome story is that it left a huge impression on me. I don't know why, but it never crossed my mind to even go up to a
veteran in public and thank them, until I experienced this. Now, everytime I see someone wearing any veteran clothing...then I go up to them to thank them for their service.
It is the least I can do. They sacrificed their lives for my freedom. I encourage you to do the same.
It just might make someones day!!
