I was so excited when I found out that this month's Art Gallery 2012 Project Challenge was to be a headband with twisted flowers!!!
Every fabric in the headband is made by Art Gallery. This was the first time ever using designer solid fabrics. Normally, I will shell out the *big* bucks for prints, but will go to JoAnn's and buy their cheap solids....well, not any more!! I fell in love with the Pure Elements line by Pat Bravo. The fabric is sturdy, yet soft. You can really feel the difference...and now that I have, I don't think I can go back!
Here is my submission to the challenge...
I am really happy with how it turned out! It is so...ME!!
The fabric that I used in this project is...
Bespoken Jacquard in Marigold
Bespoken Collection - Sequins in Turquoise
Pure Elements Linen White
Pure Elements Empire Yellow
If you have not yet joined Art Gallery's Project Challenge...do so ! It is so much fun!
Oh...can you do me a HUGE favor??? Can you go to Art Gallery Fabric's Facebook page & look for my submission...and "like" it? "Likes" are taken into consideration in the judging...and I want to WIN!!! ;)

Mini Baby Squirrel Quilt for Britta
One of my very sweet friend's baby, Britta, was born with a rare heart defect. At 3 weeks of age, she had to undergo major heart surgery to reroute all of the valves in her heart. Her mother, Stephanie, is writing the most BEAUTIFUL blog about her fight & ongoing victory over this heart defect. Take a look at {THIS BLOG}...and be sure to grab some tissues!!!
During this time, I really wanted to make something for baby Britta. I struggled at what I should make her. Then another friend of mine mentioned that when her lil baby was in the NICU, someone had made her baby a "prayer blanket". She said that it brought her much comfort to cover her baby up with this blanket...as if she was literally "covering her with prayers".
As soon as I heard that, I knew what I was going to make! My blanket started off WAY different in my mind than what it ended up! I was going to use minky material for the whole back side, but at the time of me making it, one of my boys was sick, so I couldn't make it out to the store to buy any...so I had to improvise!
"Hey...I should make a quilt"!
OK....let me just say this now. I have ZERO quilting experience! Unless you count my hours of drooling over quilts on Pinterest! I just jumped right into cutting, sewing, patching, binding & quilting....having NO idea what I was doing....what made me think I could make a quilt without knowing how to make one is beyond me! LOL! There are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many mistakes on this sucker. I am kinda hoping that Stephanie is far sighted so that she won't be able to see all my mistakes! LOL!
Oh...why did I pick squirrels to be on the quilt? Because that is the little nickname that she was given by her brother & sister...and while she was in the NICU, she had a lil stuffed squirrel in her bed...it was tough finding squirrel fabric...cute ones at that...but I found some!!
Here are some pics of my mini quilt. In retrospect, I wish I would have taken better pics of the quilt with my "good camera", but I was on a deadline to get it mailed off, so before I ran off to the post office, I took some pics with my phone (the second pic was taken in the midst of making it)....

Baby Britta, I want you to know that even though I have never met you, I want you to know that with every stitch of this quilt, I was praying for you. Though there may be scared stitching in your own life & body, like this quilt...imperfectly stitched, God can take those imperfections & turn it into something beautiful! He is going to do amazing things in your life. I just know it!
Love, Jennifer
p.s. Please forgive me if your quilt falls apart in the wash...I have never made a quilt before! Hahaha!
